FAAN Arrests 14 Suspected Vandals at Lagos Airport Construction Site
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has made a significant security breakthrough with the arrest of 14 suspected vandals at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos. This operation highlights the agency's commitment to safeguarding critical aviation infrastructure from criminal activities.
Details of the Arrest Operation
In a statement released yesterday, Henry Agbebire, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN, confirmed that the suspects were apprehended at approximately 7:00 a.m. on April 20, 2026. The arrests were the result of a swift and intelligence-driven response orchestrated by FAAN's security architecture, which worked in close coordination with the Joint Military Task Force (JMTF) and other security agencies stationed at the airport.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had unlawfully accessed the Terminal One construction site by impersonating authorized construction personnel. However, their attempt was foiled due to the vigilance, surveillance, and rapid intervention of FAAN security operatives and their partners.
Recovery of Vandalised Materials
The statement further detailed that the individuals were intercepted while in possession of vandalised materials, including copper wires and iron components, which had been illicitly removed from the construction site. All suspects were promptly apprehended and secured, with both the individuals and the recovered exhibits subsequently handed over to the appropriate investigative authorities for further legal action.
