The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku, has reaffirmed the agency's dedication to supporting the Nigerian Army in improving its air transport capabilities. This assurance was given during a meeting with senior officers from the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport held in Lagos earlier this week.
Delegation Led by Major General Shagaya
The Army delegation was led by the Corps Commander, Major General Nansak Shagaya. In the meeting, Kuku welcomed the initiative to strengthen and build upon the existing relationship between the Nigerian Army and FAAN. She reiterated the authority's readiness to collaborate with the Army, particularly in facilitating smooth and efficient operations for proposed welfare flights.
FAAN's Commitment to Safety and Efficiency
Kuku assured the delegation of FAAN's full support in line with its mandate to provide safe, secure, and passenger-friendly airport services. She emphasized that FAAN would ensure seamless operations for the welfare flights, which are designed to improve the travel experience of military personnel.
Discussions on Army Air Freight Company
Major General Shagaya explained that the purpose of the engagement was to strengthen the existing ties between the Nigerian Army and FAAN. He highlighted the corps' interest in discussions around the possible restart of the Nigerian Army Air Freight Company, as well as collaboration on planned welfare flight operations for army personnel.
Support for Military Personnel Welfare
According to Shagaya, the Army is seeking FAAN's cooperation to ensure seamless operations for welfare flights. This includes the provision of designated holding areas and support systems to accommodate officers and soldiers with connecting flights. He emphasized that such support would significantly improve the travel experience and welfare of military personnel, especially those moving across different operational locations.
FAAN remains committed to partnering with the Nigerian Army to enhance air logistics and support the welfare of troops, reinforcing the authority's role in national security and transportation.
