The authority also refuted a viral image circulating online that purported to depict events at the airport, clarifying that "This image is entirely false and does not represent any incident at Akure Airport. No gory scene occurred as depicted." FAAN urged the public to rely on official communications for verified information regarding airport security matters.

Meanwhile, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has expressed serious concerns about Nigeria's overall security situation. In a statement released Sunday in Abuja by National Coordinator Emmanuel Obwubiko, the civil rights group pointed to recent security incidents across multiple regions as evidence of systemic challenges.
HURIWA specifically referenced an ambush in Plateau State where approximately 20 security officers and community volunteers were reportedly killed by heavily armed bandits in the Garga area of Kanam Local Government Area. The group described this incident as a "tragic and alarming failure of national security" and called for urgent strategic reassessment of Nigeria's security architecture.
The organization also highlighted other security challenges including targeted killings in Plateau State and coordinated attacks by fighters linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province in the North-East region. HURIWA warned that without immediate and substantial security reforms, Nigeria could face escalating instability.
