A Nigerian man has publicly commended airport authorities after a positive experience recovering his lost laptop at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MM2) in Lagos.
A Costly Oversight at Security Screening
The individual, identified as Yinka Ogunnubi, shared his experience on Wednesday, 3 December 2025, via his official X account. He explained that he lost his laptop the previous day while traveling to Abuja. The incident occurred at the security screening point of the departure terminal.
"I had removed the laptop from its bag for scanning as instructed," Ogunnubi recounted. "Upon exiting the screening area, I collected the empty laptop bag and proceeded to my flight, completely forgetting the device in the tray." He expressed bewilderment at his own distraction, stating he could not understand how he made such an error.
The Recovery Process: From Hope to Reality
The traveler only realized his mistake hours later, after arriving in Abuja. He immediately contacted his airline and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). Following protocol, he was asked to file a formal report detailing the laptop's description, model, colour, specifications, and his travel itinerary.
"My hopes of recovering the laptop were not high," Ogunnubi admitted. "I was already mentally preparing to accept that it was gone for good." However, later that same day at around 5:20 pm, he received a call from an official of the Directorate of Aviation Security (AVSEC) informing him that the laptop had been found and secured.
On his return to Lagos, Ogunnubi successfully retrieved the laptop from FAAN officials who had kept it safe. He also thanked his friend, Gbenga Saka, for assisting by escalating the matter after he reached out on X.
A Call to Celebrate Professionalism
Ogunnubi used the opportunity to praise the professionalism displayed by the FAAN and AVSEC staff. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging good service alongside criticism.
"Very often, we are critical when they get it wrong. As it should be," he said. "But when they get it right, we must also show the same grace by commending them."
He stated that the incident restored his faith in the aviation sector, highlighting that many professionals work diligently without seeking recognition. "They, in my opinion, are the unsung heroes in the Nigerian Renaissance," Ogunnubi concluded. "When we see them, we should encourage them, commend them, and give them the thumbs up. We must never allow the bad eggs in the system to have the final say."
