Nigeria and Morocco Sign Updated Bilateral Air Service Agreement at ICAO Event

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has officially signed a reviewed Bilateral Air Services Agreement with the Kingdom of Morocco. This significant event took place at the ongoing Global Implementation Support Symposium in Marrakesh, Morocco, which is organized by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.

Strengthening Air Transport Relations

A statement released by the Special Assistant to the Minister on media, Tunde Moshood, highlighted that this landmark agreement represents a major milestone in strengthening air transport relations between Nigeria and Morocco. The agreement establishes a modern and forward-looking framework designed to enhance connectivity, deepen commercial cooperation, and expand operational opportunities for airlines, airports, and regulatory institutions.

Beyond aviation, the agreement is expected to catalyze broader economic growth by opening new channels for trade, tourism, investment, and people-to-people exchanges between the two nations. ICAO's Commitment to Nigeria's Aviation Sector

During the symposium, the President of the ICAO Council, Mr. Toshiyuki Onuma, reaffirmed ICAO's commitment to supporting Nigeria's aviation workforce development, capacity building, and the implementation of strategic programs aimed at strengthening the nation's aviation ecosystem. Minister Keyamo welcomed these assurances and reiterated Nigeria's full alignment with ICAO's global standards, implementation priorities, and long-term vision for a safe, secure, and sustainable aviation sector.

Expanded Cooperation with the European Union

On the sidelines of the event, Minister Keyamo held constructive discussions with the European Union delegation. This engagement built upon the existing cooperation framework between the EU and Nigeria's Ministry of Aviation, exploring expanded opportunities for technical assistance, strengthened safety oversight, and deeper institutional collaboration. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to advancing Nigeria's aviation reforms, enhancing regulatory capacity, and supporting initiatives that will further modernize the sector in line with global best practices.
