Passengers traveling from Kaduna to Abuja faced significant disruption on Monday morning, March 16, after a train incident forced services to halt along the critical rail corridor. The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that the collision resulted in injuries to several travelers, though fortunately no fatalities were recorded.

Earlier reports from passengers indicated that the Abuja-bound train had collided with another train on the route, preventing it from completing the journey as scheduled. The situation was first disclosed by security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post shared on the social media platform X, sparking concerns about railway safety.
However, the NRC later provided official clarification, stating that the incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. near Asham. According to the corporation, the collision involved a rear locomotive and a passenger coach, rather than two separate trains as initially speculated.
NRC Investigation Reveals Coupling Problem
In a statement signed by Managing Director Kayode Opeifa, preliminary findings showed that the rear locomotive made contact with the coach directly behind it due to a coupling issue. This mechanical failure led to the collision that disrupted service along one of Nigeria's busiest rail routes.
The NRC confirmed that some passengers sustained injuries in the incident and were quickly attended to by emergency personnel before being transported to a nearby medical facility for proper treatment. The corporation emphasized that all injured individuals received immediate medical attention.
Emergency Response and Service Restoration
Emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the scene following the collision, while officials from the Safety Investigation Bureau also arrived at the location to begin a detailed investigation into the incident. After officials removed the affected locomotive and coach from the track, the train eventually arrived at Idu station at approximately 10:39 a.m., about 38 minutes behind its scheduled arrival time. This delay, while inconvenient for passengers, allowed for proper safety protocols to be followed.
