CBN's Role and Recent Controversies
The Central Bank of Nigeria, established by the CBN Act of 1958, serves as the country's highest monetary authority. In related news, sacked CBN staff have taken the bank to court over alleged unlawful termination of appointments. The class-action lawsuit, filed at the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) in Abuja, alleges that the bank's actions violated Nigerian labour laws, internal policies, and contractual rights. The claimants, represented by Stephen Gana and 32 others, argue that the termination letters dated April 5, 2024, titled 'Reorganisational and Human Capital Restructuring,' contravened Section 36 of the Nigerian Constitution and the CBN Human Resources Policies and Procedures Manual (HRPPM).
