Former Governors Applaud Media Outlet's Endurance at Prestigious Event

Former governors of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel and Olusegun Osoba, have publicly commended the remarkable resilience of Champion Newspapers Limited in the face of Nigeria's challenging economic climate. Their remarks were delivered at the newspaper's annual awards ceremony, held recently in Lagos, which served to recognize excellence and dedicated service across various sectors of the Nigerian economy.

During the event, more than 50 distinguished individuals and organizations were honored for their outstanding performances and contributions within government, the corporate sector, and private enterprises. Gbenga Daniel, who chaired the ceremony, described the awards as a dedicated platform for celebrating excellence, courage, and enterprise. According to Daniel, the newspaper has remained steadfast, resilient, and consistent despite rapid changes in media technology and the persistently challenging operating environment for journalism in the country.

Praise for Dedication and Commitment

Similarly, Olusegun Osoba praised the management and staff of the print medium, asserting that the ability to sustain a news publication for several decades reflects profound dedication and commitment. In her welcome address, the Group Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of Champion Newspapers Limited, Nwadiuto Iheakanwa, explained that the awards were specifically designed to honor leadership, innovation, integrity, and service across various economic sectors.

Personal Tributes and Notable Honorees

In a separate remark, Nigerian musician and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, disclosed that the late founder, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, was among the first individuals to support his career. Charly Boy, who received the Champion of the Voiceless Award, fondly recalled that Iwuanyanwu provided him with both financial and emotional support during the most difficult period of his life.

Among the distinguished award recipients were the Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank, Adaora Umeoji, and Ahmed Usman Ododo, Governor of Kogi State, who was honored with the 'Governor of the Year in Youth Development and Security' award, among other accolades presented during the evening.
