EFL Warns Play-Off Final May Change Amid Southampton Case

The English Football League (EFL) has released an interim update regarding the ongoing disciplinary proceedings involving Southampton, following Tuesday's Championship Play-Off Semi-Final second leg. The governing body confirmed that an Independent Disciplinary Commission hearing is expected to take place on or before Tuesday, 19 May.

According to the EFL, “the Commission will issue its decision as soon as possible following consideration of the relevant submissions and evidence.” However, the EFL stressed that it does not control the timetable of the independent panel overseeing the case.

Potential Fixture Changes

Despite the ongoing uncertainty, the EFL stated that preparations for the Championship Play-Off Final are continuing as scheduled for Saturday, 23 May, with kick-off set for 4:30pm. Nevertheless, the league warned that “the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings may yet result in changes to the fixture.” Contingency plans are in place, including considerations for any potential appeal process.
