Geregu Power Appoints Mohammed Jaoji Acting CEO

Geregu Power Plc has announced the appointment of Mohammed Jaoji as its acting Chief Executive Officer, effective 17 August, subject to the approval of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). The company disclosed this in a regulatory filing signed by its Company Secretary, Gbeminiyi Shoda of StructureHQ Limited, on Monday.

Appointment Details and Transition

Mr Jaoji's appointment follows the expiration of the tenure of Sean Manley, who served as the company's Interim Chief Executive Officer until 14 May. The board expressed its appreciation to Mr Manley for his service and contributions during his tenure, and stated its confidence that Mr Jaoji will strengthen the company's governance structure.

“The Board is confident that the appointment will strengthen the governance structure and strategic direction of the Company pending the appointment of a substantive Chief Executive Officer,” the company stated in the filing.

Profile of the New Acting CEO

Mr Jaoji is a mechanical engineering graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a registered member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). He brings over three decades of experience in Nigeria's power sector to his new role.

His career spans technical and leadership positions at the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) and Geregu Power Plc. Specifically, he served as Head of Maintenance Planning and Performance at Geregu Power between 2007 and 2019. Subsequently, he served as Technical Assistant to the Minister of Power from 2019 to 2023 before returning to Geregu Power.

Impact and Next Steps

The appointment is pending regulatory approval from NERC, which will determine the finality of Mr Jaoji's position. Until a substantive CEO is appointed, Mr Jaoji is expected to lead the company's strategic direction, building on his extensive experience in the sector.
