The International News Media Association (INMA) Global CEO Earl J. Wilkinson visited Legit.ng in Lagos on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, marking his first trip to Nigeria. He was accompanied by INMA Africa Manager Doreen Mbaya.
The visit underscores Legit.ng's position as one of Nigeria's most widely read digital news platforms, serving more than 25 million readers. It also highlights the platform's growing role in a global industry being reshaped by digital habits and artificial intelligence.
This visit deepens a partnership that began when Legit.ng joined INMA in 2023. In 2024, Legit.ng Editor-in-Chief Rahaman Abiola was appointed to the INMA Africa Advisory Council Board.
A Turning Point for the News Business
The visit comes at a critical time for the news industry. Publishers worldwide are adapting to digital and mobile consumption, the rise of artificial intelligence in content production, and declining trust in media. INMA helps news companies navigate these changes.
Founded in 1930, INMA is the only global association focused exclusively on news media business. It connects over 26,000 members at more than 1,000 news companies in nearly 100 countries. Its World Congress attracts senior media executives annually.
Legit.ng's Standing in Nigeria and Beyond
Wilkinson chose to spend a working day with Legit.ng, reflecting the platform's significance in Nigeria and Africa. Founded in 2012, Legit.ng has grown into a leading digital news platform, ranked by the Reuters Institute among the most widely read online news brands in Nigeria. It is known for breaking news, human interest journalism, and fact-checking.
During the visit, Wilkinson emphasized the importance of AI in news operations. 'AI is here to stay, especially in news operations. You have to stay on top of the new trends, or you risk being left behind,' he said. He also praised Legit.ng's audience strength and market position.
Rahaman Abiola, Editor-in-Chief of Legit.ng, said: 'Hosting INMA's global leadership here in Lagos is a proud moment for our newsroom and for Nigerian media. It reflects how far we have come and where we are going.'
