Navy Commissions Housing, Golf Clubhouse in Lagos

The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, commissioned three key projects in Navy Town, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos, over the weekend as part of the 70th anniversary celebrations of the Nigerian Navy. The projects include a 48-unit one-bedroom apartment block, the Dolphin Golf Club House, and a 16-unit two-bedroom accommodation facility located in the Senior Ratings' Quarters.

Addressing Accommodation Challenges

The 48-unit one-bedroom accommodation was designed to address housing challenges facing the Nigerian Navy, particularly in Lagos. The facility is expected to provide a safe, conducive, and comfortable living environment that will enhance the morale, productivity, and operational effectiveness of personnel. The project was awarded before the CNS assumed office but had been abandoned for about five years. Following his assumption of office, the CNS directed its immediate completion. After the necessary documentation and approvals, completion and structural works commenced in March 2026 and were concluded within approximately eight weeks through effective planning and dedicated execution. The structure was built on a complex cellular raft foundation system to ensure structural stability and long-term safety. The facility is also supported by a comprehensive water supply system with a treatment plant to provide potable water for occupants.

Dolphin Golf Club House

The Dolphin Golf Club House is a two-storey recreational facility designed to provide a conducive environment for relaxation, recreation, and social interaction for both military personnel and civilians. The facility comprises a reception area, general lounge, VIP lounge, bar, and kitchen. Other sections include changing rooms for male and female users, the Club Captain's office, a general office, and spacious outdoor upper-terrace sitting areas. The project also includes about 600 square metres of interlocked parking space and landscaped green areas. The project commenced in July 2025 with an expected completion date of July 2026. However, the CNS's intervention facilitated its completion in 10 months, two months ahead of schedule. The structure was also built on a complex cellular raft foundation system to guarantee structural integrity, durability, and safety.

Senior Ratings' Quarters

The 16-unit two-bedroom accommodation located in the Senior Ratings' Quarters comprises 16 flats designed to provide comfortable and befitting accommodation for Senior Ratings and their families. The facility also includes about 2,000 square metres of interlocked parking space and access roads, 70,000 litres of surface and overhead water storage facilities, and landscaped green areas. Although the main building structure had been completed about three years ago, the absence of external works and critical support infrastructure prevented occupation and effective utilisation. In addition, the site had severely waterlogged terrain, making accessibility and construction particularly challenging.
