Stakeholders Advocate for Proactive Risk Strategy Ahead of 2026 Nigerian Summit
As global disruptions continue to reshape economic landscapes, stakeholders are calling for a decisive transition from reactive to proactive risk management. This push comes in anticipation of the 8th Nigerian Risk Awards and Summit (NRA), scheduled for June 4, 2026, in Lagos. The biennial event, themed 'Anticipatory Governance, Risk and Foresight: Preparing Nigeria for a Resilient and Inclusive Future', aims to unite policymakers, corporate leaders, academics, and risk professionals to develop strategies for bolstering national resilience against emerging threats.
Emphasis on Foresight in Public and Private Sectors
During a virtual media briefing, Bolanle Johnson, Managing Partner at Conrad Clark Nigeria, highlighted the critical importance of foresight in both the public and private sectors. She pointed out that risks are increasingly global in nature, necessitating that organizations anticipate disruptions rather than merely reacting to them. "Risk management is not reactive; it is anticipatory. It is about looking ahead and asking what could go wrong and what could go right," Johnson explained. She added that the NRA platform serves to celebrate organizations that demonstrate resilience and foresight in their operations.
Catalysing National Dialogue on Resilience
Damilola James, Programme Director of the NRA, emphasized that the initiative extends beyond awards, aiming to catalyze a national dialogue on resilience and preparedness. She revealed that this year's edition will involve collaboration with key government institutions, including the Office of the Vice President and the Office of Preparedness and Resilience, to foster coordinated responses to emerging risks. "Risk management is no longer optional; it is critical for national development," James stated, underscoring the event's broader impact on policy and strategy.
