Unilever Nigeria Plc has achieved a significant milestone in its supply chain operations, recording a full year without a single accident. The consumer goods giant announced this feat as it wrapped up the fifth edition of its annual Transporters' Safety Week.
A Collective Commitment to Safety
The 2025 safety week, held under the theme 'No Rush! Na Safety Sure Pass', served as a platform to reinforce a shared culture of responsibility. Key stakeholders, including company leadership, transport partners, and drivers, gathered at the Mega Distribution Centre in Agbara, Ogun State, to participate in the weeklong programme.
Managing Director Tobi Adeniyi emphasized the collective effort behind the impressive safety record. He commended all participants for their role in sustaining a transport network free from fatalities and reiterated the company's unwavering, zero-tolerance policy towards accidents.
Intensive Training and Health Screenings
The programme was designed to be both educational and practical. Experts from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigerian Institute for Industrial Security facilitated intensive training sessions. Drivers were taken through critical modules on defensive driving techniques, cargo security protocols, and effective accident prevention strategies.
Beyond skills training, Unilever also prioritized the well-being of the drivers. All participants benefited from free medical screenings, ensuring they remain physically and mentally fit for the demanding duty of long-haul transportation.
Strengthening Partnerships and Recognizing Excellence
Logistics Manager Ayokunle Ajijola highlighted the programme's impact, now in its fifth year. He stated that the clean safety record is a direct testament to the initiative's success and that it has significantly strengthened Unilever's collaborative partnerships with its network of transporters.
"Safety and quality are non-negotiable priorities at Unilever," Ajijola said. "This accident-free year underscores the positive impact our dedicated programme has on our drivers. This ongoing initiative reaffirms our commitment to upholding the highest standards and fortifying our partnerships with transporters."
The closing ceremony featured an awards segment to honor outstanding performers. The notable winners were:
- Jimoh Kazeem of Oritsetimeyin Logistics Limited - Best Performing Driver (Pan Nigeria)
- African Truckers Ltd - Most Security and Safety-Compliant Transporter
- Kabiru Sani of LORI Systems Technology - Award for Integrity
