Unilever Nigeria Celebrates Accident-Free Year in Logistics After Safety Week
Unilever Nigeria Marks Accident-Free Year in Logistics

Unilever Nigeria Plc has successfully completed a full calendar year without a single accident across its extensive logistics network. This significant achievement was highlighted as the company wrapped up the fifth edition of its annual Transporters’ Safety Week.

A Week Focused on Safety and Responsibility

The 2025 safety programme, held at the Mega Distribution Centre in Agbara, carried the theme “No Rush! Na Safety Sure Pass.” The event served as a crucial gathering point for Unilever's leadership, its transport partners, and drivers, all united in strengthening a culture of responsibility throughout the supply chain.

Throughout the week, participants engaged in intensive training sessions led by experts from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigerian Institute for Industrial Security (NIIS). The curriculum covered essential areas for professional drivers:

  • Defensive driving techniques
  • Cargo security protocols
  • Proactive accident prevention strategies

In addition to the training, drivers received free medical screenings to ensure they were physically fit for the demanding task of long-haul driving.

Leadership Commends Collective Effort

Tobi Adeniyi, the Managing Director of Unilever Nigeria, emphasized that maintaining a fatality-free transport network is a collective triumph. He praised all stakeholders for their dedication and specifically commended individuals and partners recognized for exemplary performance. Adeniyi firmly restated the company's unwavering zero-tolerance policy toward accidents.

Echoing this sentiment, Ayokunle Ajijola, the Logistics Manager, directly linked the clean safety record to the impact of the Safety Week. “Safety and quality are non-negotiable priorities at Unilever,” Ajijola stated. “This accident-free year is a clear testament to the positive effect our programme has on our drivers. Now in its fifth year, this initiative reinforces our steadfast commitment to these high standards and to our valuable partnerships with transporters.”

Recognizing Excellence in the Logistics Chain

The closing ceremony of the Safety Week was also an occasion to honour top performers. Awards were presented to outstanding drivers and transport companies, celebrating their contribution to the year's success.

  • Jimoh Kazeem of Oritsetimeyin Logistics Limited was named the Best Performing Driver (Pan Nigeria).
  • African Truckers Ltd received the award for Most Security and Safety-Compliant Transporter.
  • Kabiru Sani of LORI Systems Technology was recognized for his Integrity.

Unilever Nigeria describes the Transporters’ Safety Week as a vital platform to advance road safety standards, boost operational efficiency, and acknowledge excellence across its logistics chain. The company noted that this initiative is in perfect alignment with its long-standing commitment to sustainable and responsible business practices, which extends across its foods, home care, and personal care divisions.
