Meta Launches Paid Subscriptions on Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp with AI Services
Meta Rolls Out Paid Subscriptions Across Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp

Meta has officially launched a global rollout of its new subscription services for Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, marking one of the company's biggest efforts yet to transform its social media platforms beyond an ad-driven business model.

Subscription Plans and Pricing

The tech giant announced that users across its flagship apps will now be able to subscribe to premium plans offering additional features, deeper personalization options and advanced engagement tools tailored to creators, businesses and heavy users. Under the new structure, Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus will each cost $3.99 monthly, while WhatsApp Plus will launch at $2.99 per month.

Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus Features

Subscribers on Instagram and Facebook will gain access to features such as profile customization, enhanced reactions, expanded story controls and advanced audience insights aimed at improving user engagement and visibility. Meta says more premium features will continue to be added over time as the company expands its subscription ecosystem.

Instagram Plus introduces several creator-focused tools designed to help users grow and manage their audience more effectively. Subscribers will be able to view how many people replay their Stories, create unlimited custom audience lists beyond the Close Friends feature, extend Story visibility beyond the standard 24-hour window and preview Stories anonymously without appearing on viewers' lists. The platform will also allow users to spotlight one Story weekly for additional reach, search through Story viewers more easily and publish posts directly to their profile highlights without pushing them to followers' feeds. Additional customization options include animated "Super Heart" reactions for Stories, exclusive profile fonts, custom app icons and expanded profile pin features.

Facebook Plus is expected to offer similar engagement and personalization tools tailored to social interaction and content visibility.

WhatsApp Plus Features

WhatsApp Plus focuses more heavily on messaging personalization. Premium users will have access to custom themes, unique ringtones, extra pinned chats, enhanced list organization tools, premium stickers and other messaging upgrades.

Meta One and AI Subscription Tiers

The company is also introducing a broader subscription umbrella known as "Meta One," which will serve as the central hub for future creator, business and artificial intelligence-based services. Beyond consumer subscriptions, Meta is now moving aggressively into AI-powered paid services. The company revealed plans to begin testing two new Meta AI subscription tiers — Meta One Plus at $7.99 monthly and Meta One Premium at $19.99 monthly. While both plans will provide access to advanced AI tools, the Premium version will offer higher processing capacity for more complex tasks, deeper reasoning capabilities and enhanced image and video generation features across Meta's apps. Meta says its AI services will remain free for casual users, but the paid versions are intended for users who require heavier AI usage and more advanced performance.

Testing and Expansion

The AI subscription tests are expected to begin next month in Singapore, Guatemala and Bolivia before expanding to other regions. At the same time, Meta is preparing separate subscription plans for creators and businesses in selected countries including Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Thailand and Bangladesh.

Creator and Business Plans

One of the upcoming packages, Meta One Essential, priced at $14.99 monthly, will include verification benefits, impersonation protection and an upgraded "linksheet" feature that allows users to showcase their online presence across multiple platforms and websites. The higher-tier Meta One Advanced plan, which will cost $49.99 monthly, will include additional growth tools designed to increase visibility and audience reach across Facebook and Instagram. Features under the Advanced package include higher placement in search results, increased recommendation opportunities in feeds, enhanced Reel promotion tools and automated invitations encouraging users to follow creators after engaging with their content. Subscribers will also gain access to deeper analytics, competitive performance insights, advanced scheduling systems, shared account management tools for moderators and notifications when others reuse their original content.

Strategic Shift

According to Meta, the new subscription push is part of its long-term strategy to diversify revenue streams and reduce dependence on digital advertising, especially as growth across its core social platforms begins to slow after years of global expansion. Unlike Meta Verified — the company's existing identity verification service — the new "Plus" subscriptions are focused more on user experience, customization and audience-building tools rather than verification or account protection. Meta says the company is still experimenting with many of the AI and professional subscription features but plans to gradually integrate all services into the broader Meta One ecosystem as it continues expanding its paid offerings globally.
