Mypadi AI Turns WhatsApp into Nigeria's Safest Crypto Trading Platform

Mypadi AI, a Nigerian fintech startup, has introduced a new infrastructure that transforms WhatsApp into a secure cryptocurrency trading platform, addressing persistent fraud and trust issues in the country's peer-to-peer (P2P) crypto market. The platform leverages artificial intelligence and an escrow system to protect users during transactions, according to the company's announcement.

How Mypadi AI Works on WhatsApp

The service operates entirely within WhatsApp, allowing users to buy and sell cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, USDT, and Ethereum without leaving the messaging app. Mypadi AI integrates a chatbot that handles trade matching, payment verification, and dispute resolution. When a user initiates a trade, the platform's AI scans the counterparty's history and transaction patterns to flag potential risks before the deal proceeds.

Once a trade is agreed upon, the cryptocurrency is held in an escrow wallet controlled by Mypadi AI. The seller only receives payment after the buyer confirms receipt of the digital assets, a mechanism designed to eliminate chargeback fraud and non-delivery scams that plague traditional P2P platforms. The company reports that this system has already processed over 15,000 successful trades since its beta launch in early 2026.

Addressing Nigeria's Crypto Fraud Crisis

Nigeria has one of the highest rates of cryptocurrency fraud in Africa, with the country's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reporting losses exceeding $500 million to crypto-related scams in 2025 alone. Mypadi AI's founder, Chidi Okonkwo, stated that the platform was built specifically to combat this trend. "We saw that WhatsApp is where most Nigerians first learn about crypto and where many scams originate," Okonkwo said. "Our goal is to turn that same channel into a safe, regulated environment where users can trade with confidence."

The platform's AI engine analyzes over 20 data points per transaction, including the user's trading history, verification status, and behavioral patterns. If the system detects anomalies—such as a new account attempting to trade large volumes or a user with multiple unresolved disputes—it automatically blocks the transaction and alerts both parties. Mypadi AI claims this has reduced fraud incidents on its platform to less than 0.1% of all trades.

Regulatory Compliance and Future Plans

Mypadi AI operates under a license from the Nigerian Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a digital asset service provider, making it one of the few WhatsApp-based trading platforms to comply with the country's crypto regulations. The company has also partnered with two licensed Nigerian banks to handle fiat settlement, ensuring that all naira transactions are processed through the formal banking system.

Looking ahead, Mypadi AI plans to expand its services beyond WhatsApp by launching a standalone mobile app in the fourth quarter of 2026. The app will retain the same AI-driven security features while adding advanced charting tools, portfolio tracking, and support for decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols. The company also intends to introduce a referral program that rewards users with a percentage of trading fees generated by their referrals, a move expected to accelerate user acquisition.

According to Okonkwo, the platform's immediate focus remains on building trust among Nigerian crypto users. "We are not trying to be the biggest exchange overnight," he said. "We are trying to be the safest. Once people know they can trade without fear of being scammed, the volume will follow naturally." The startup has secured $2.5 million in seed funding from a consortium of Lagos-based venture capital firms, which will be used to enhance its AI capabilities and expand its customer support team to handle dispute resolution more efficiently.
