IBEDC Announces 3-Hour Daily Power Outages in 22 Ibadan Communities
22 Ibadan Communities Face Daily Power Outages

Residents and businesses across twenty-two communities in Ibadan, Oyo State, are set to experience scheduled power interruptions for several days. The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has announced a necessary but disruptive plan to relocate its infrastructure due to ongoing road construction.

Planned Outages and Affected Areas

The power distribution company confirmed that the temporary blackouts will occur daily from Monday, January 5, to Friday, January 9, 2026. Each outage is expected to last for approximately three hours as crews work to move electrical facilities along the Foodco Road and Idi Isin axis of the city.

In an official statement released on Tuesday, IBEDC explained that the road project has made it imperative to remove and reposition key electricity assets. This process requires the planned switching off of specific power feeders serving the following areas:

  • Alalubosa Government Reserved Area (GRA)
  • Ogunkola, Museum, and Akinola Maja
  • Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN) and Forestry College
  • Lead City and Lead British International School
  • House 18, Eleventh House, and Commissionaire
  • Nursing Home, Sunrise Estate, and Post Housing Estate
  • AMI Complex and ODUA area
  • Police Headquarters, Apampa
  • The Heavens Estate, Blossom Heritage, Polo Club, and Baale Akintayo axis

Safety and Customer Appeal

IBEDC has described this measure as unavoidable, placing a high priority on the safety of both its personnel and the public during the infrastructure relocation. The company has publicly appealed for understanding and cooperation from all affected customers.

The temporary disruption is necessary to prevent long-term damage to power equipment and to ensure reliable service continues after the road construction is complete. IBEDC assured customers that teams are working to finish the exercise as swiftly as possible to restore normal electricity supply.

Community Concerns and Precautions

The announcement has sparked concern among residents and business owners in the listed communities, many of whom depend heavily on consistent power for daily operations and household needs. Some have voiced worries about the impact on small businesses, healthcare services, and the added strain amid already rising energy costs.

In response, IBEDC reiterated its commitment to improving power supply across its franchise areas and urged patience during the brief period. The company also advised customers to take necessary precautions, such as switching off sensitive electrical appliances during the outage windows to prevent potential damage from power surges when supply is restored.
