Lawmaker Hails Governor's Commitment to Development
The lawmaker representing Badagry Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Bonu Solomon Saanu, praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his dedication to ensuring that no part of Lagos State is left behind in infrastructure development. Saanu described the electrification initiative as a landmark achievement that will transform communities in Badagry West.
He expressed gratitude on behalf of his constituents, noting that the restoration of electricity is expected to revitalise economic and social activities in the border areas. Saanu also appreciated a recent visit by the deputy governor to his family home, calling it a gesture that boosted his legislative aspirations.
Project Details and Technical Achievements
The Badagry West Electrification Project involved a comprehensive technical undertaking, including:
- Electrification of three High Capacity (HC) Tower Crossings.
- Rehabilitation of 33KV distribution lines along the Gaji–Seme and Owode–Apa corridors.
- Successful connection of 51 transformer substations to the grid.
This project addresses long-standing electricity deficits in the area, with the activation of transformers symbolising renewed hope for improved productivity and a better quality of life for residents.
Deputy Governor Emphasises Alignment with Development Agenda
Representing Governor Sanwo-Olu at the event, Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat stated that the project is a deliberate intervention to tackle electricity challenges. He emphasised that it aligns with the state's THEMES+ Development Agenda, which prioritises resilient infrastructure and economic growth.
Hamzat highlighted Lagos State's efforts to regulate and expand electricity supply more effectively, referencing the newly inaugurated Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission. He assured that these projects will significantly strengthen power distribution, enabling thousands of homes and businesses to benefit from a more stable electricity supply.
Call for Road Rehabilitation and Government Response
While celebrating the electrification milestone, Lawmaker Saanu pointed out the need for the rehabilitation of the Gbaji–Apa–Owode Road, describing it as the next critical project for the area. He pledged to use his legislative influence to push for its reconstruction.
In response, Deputy Governor Hamzat assured residents that the Lagos State Government is ready to collaborate with the Federal Government to accelerate the road's rehabilitation. He noted that this route remains key for trade and movement in the Badagry West axis, underscoring its importance for regional development.
