Dangote Cement Transport has significantly expanded its technology-driven initiatives aimed at improving performance, governance, and road safety compliance. The company announced a series of enhanced programs covering key operational areas, including performance metrics, strengthened governance standards, and improved accountability frameworks.
Comprehensive Safety Programs
The programs also include comprehensive driver training and competency development, technology-enabled safety systems, journey management protocols, and regular recertification processes. Additional components involve mandatory drug screening, strategic partnerships, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) commitments, sustainability programs, and community impact initiatives.
Anthony Chiejina, the company's spokesman, noted that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) recently commended Dangote Cement for its proactive safety measures, which have contributed to reducing road traffic crashes nationwide.
Technology Deployment
Mr. Murilo Silva, Head of Transport at Dangote Cement Plc, stated that the company has upgraded its transport management systems by deploying automated inspection technologies and artificial intelligence-driven solutions. These advancements aim to enhance operational efficiency and road safety. Silva confirmed that enhanced GPS and telematics systems now enable real-time monitoring of driver behavior during transit, strengthening oversight and operational safety across the fleet.
To combat driver fatigue, the company has intensified its wellness campaign and engaged in stakeholder forums with third-party truck operators and drivers to reinforce safety awareness and compliance. Silva highlighted that collaboration with the FRSC is yielding positive results and strengthening safety standards.
FRSC Commendation
FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed commended Dangote Cement for setting new standards in road safety management and urged the company to sustain reforms that have improved safety across Nigeria's transport sector. He reported that compared to 2025 and 2026, road crashes involving Dangote Cement trucks declined by 56%, fatal cases decreased by 36%, and injuries dropped by 52%. Mohammed emphasized that the company's Gap Analysis implementation and policies are worthy of emulation by all logistics companies in Africa. He stated, "We have always said that if Dangote Cement gets it right, Nigeria and Africa will get it right. This is a plus for Nigeria."
