EKEDC Announces Planned Power Outage in Lagos for Critical Maintenance
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has issued a public notice to customers in Lagos State, announcing a planned power outage that will affect several key communities. This temporary disruption is scheduled for Friday, April 10, 2026, and is necessary to allow for essential maintenance work by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
Affected Areas and Schedule
The outage will impact areas including Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Idumagbo, Obalende, Awolowo Road, and surrounding neighborhoods. According to EKEDC, the power supply will be unavailable from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during this period. The company has advised residents and businesses in these locations to prepare ahead of time to minimize inconvenience.
Reason for the Outage: The maintenance is focused on the Alagbon Transmission Station, where TCN will perform major work on a 300MVA transformer. This effort is part of ongoing initiatives to improve the reliability and stability of the electricity grid in Lagos, aiming to enhance service delivery for customers.
Customer Advisory and Apology
In its statement, EKEDC expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and requested understanding and cooperation from affected customers. The company emphasized that this maintenance is crucial for long-term improvements in power supply, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening the network infrastructure.
Related Developments: In a separate announcement, the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has indicated that other states, including Plateau, Bauchi, Adamawa, Gombe, Borno, Taraba, and Yobe, will experience power disruptions for about six weeks. These outages, from April 9 to May 22, 2026, are part of a grid modernization project involving the installation of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) fibre-optic infrastructure along the Jos–Gombe transmission corridor.
Additionally, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has reported a planned 19-hour outage in parts of Kogi State, affecting areas like Lokoja town and Konton Karfe, due to maintenance at the Lokoja Transmission Station by TCN.
EKEDC's proactive communication aims to ensure customers are well-informed and can plan accordingly during these necessary infrastructure upgrades.
