The Federal Government has officially recognized Schneider Electric for its significant role in transforming Nigeria's power sector, highlighting the company's leadership in promoting energy efficiency, digital automation, and sustainable solutions across various industries.
Minister's Commendation at Innovation Day
Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu delivered the praise during his address at Innovation Day Nigeria 2025, organized by Schneider Electric in Lagos. Represented by his Chief Technical Advisor, Adebayo Olowoniyi, the minister emphasized the government's commitment to collaborative efforts and policy reforms aimed at revitalizing Nigeria's power infrastructure.
"I commend Schneider Electric for its long-standing partnership in Nigeria's power sector," stated Adelabu. "The government remains committed to supporting innovation and partnerships that drive efficiency, sustainability, and inclusive growth."
The event, themed "Competitive Advantage Through Automation and Sustainability," attracted over 400 customers, 70 C-level executives, senior government officials, and business leaders. Participants explored how digital innovation could accelerate Nigeria's energy transition and industrial development.
Schneider Electric's Impact in Nigeria
Country President for English-Speaking Africa, Ajibola Akindele, revealed the company's remarkable journey from starting with just one employee in 2000 to employing over 200 staff members today. The organization now supports critical infrastructure across multiple sectors, including energy, power and grid, data centers, buildings, telecommunications, and manufacturing.
"Today, Schneider Electric electrifies, automates, and digitizes 100% of the energy produced in Nigeria, 95% of the country's refining operations, and 55% of its food production," Akindele announced.
He provided a striking example of their market penetration: "Within the Lagos metropolis, there's a 65% chance that the electrons powering your home or office flow through Schneider Electric equipment."
Partnership Ecosystem and Job Creation
Akindele emphasized the collaborative nature of their operations, noting that Schneider Electric works with over 400 partners across Nigeria to deliver impactful solutions. As the company celebrates 25 years in the country, it also recognizes these partnerships that have collectively created more than 3,000 jobs and contributed to sustainable progress.
Zone President for Middle East and Africa, Walid Sheta, outlined four megatrends reshaping the global landscape:
- Energy transition
- Digitisation and AI
- Infrastructure Development
- Global Rebalancing
"The transformation towards electricity is becoming increasingly urgent because everyone now acknowledges that the most efficient form of energy is electrical energy," Sheta explained. "Electrification is key in the world of tomorrow to be more efficient."
Minister Adelabu concluded that repositioning Nigeria's power sector requires a comprehensive approach involving legislative reforms, infrastructure development, energy transition, local content development, and capacity enhancement. These measures aim to address structural challenges and attract private investment throughout the electricity value chain.
