The Senior Staff Association of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has expressed strong support for the reappointment of Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdul-Aziz as Managing Director, highlighting his proven track record of reform-driven leadership and dedication to enhancing Nigeria's power transmission infrastructure.
In a formal statement released in Abuja, the association's representative, Mr. Solomon Kigbo, emphasized that Abdul-Aziz's return signifies continuity in the ongoing reforms within the power sector, particularly in addressing persistent challenges related to electricity transmission across the nation.
Notable Gains in Grid Expansion and Modernization
According to Kigbo, TCN has achieved significant progress in expanding and modernizing the national grid, despite facing increasing pressure from rising energy demands and infrastructural limitations. "Under his leadership, the company has demonstrated remarkable resilience and a clear strategic direction. Investments in transmission infrastructure and technology upgrades are gradually improving grid stability and operational efficiency," he stated.
He further noted that ongoing initiatives, including the rehabilitation of aging facilities and the construction of new transmission lines, are critical steps toward bridging Nigeria's electricity gap and ensuring a more reliable power supply.
Human Capital Development as a Key Driver
Public affairs analyst, Alhaji Usman Abdullahi, also commended the TCN management for prioritizing human capital development, describing it as a fundamental driver of the company's advancements. "A skilled and motivated workforce is essential for sustaining reforms in such a technical sector. TCN's focus on training and capacity building has significantly enhanced operational performance and overall productivity," he explained.
Abdullahi added that these efforts are well-aligned with broader national objectives aimed at ensuring reliable electricity supply to households, industries, and essential services, thereby supporting economic growth and development.
Adoption of Global Best Practices and Technology
Similarly, Barrister Abubakar Usman of the Nigeria Youth Patriotic Front praised TCN's adoption of global best practices and modern technologies, noting that these measures have substantially improved monitoring systems and overall grid management. He described Abdul-Aziz as a highly competent leader whose reappointment reflects confidence in his ability to consolidate existing gains and drive further improvements in the sector.
Call for Collective Support and Collaboration
Meanwhile, Comrade Williams Asukwo, Chairman of the Nigerian Project Initiative, called on all stakeholders to rally behind the TCN leadership, urging critics to engage constructively in the interest of national development. "Progress in the power sector requires collective responsibility and a unified approach. Support and collaboration will go a long way in building a stable and efficient electricity network that benefits all Nigerians," he asserted.
The reappointment of Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdul-Aziz is widely viewed as a strategic move designed to sustain ongoing reforms and strengthen the backbone of Nigeria's electricity transmission system, ensuring long-term stability and enhanced performance in the power sector.
