President Tinubu Launches Major Development Projects in Bayelsa State

In a significant event attended by thousands of residents and dignitaries, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, President Bola Tinubu inaugurated three key projects in Bayelsa State on April 11, 2026. The highlight was the commissioning of a 60-megawatt independent gas-powered turbine, aimed at boosting the state's energy capacity and supporting industrial growth.

Infrastructure Milestones Unveiled

Alongside the gas turbine, President Tinubu commissioned several critical infrastructure projects. These include the Sagbama-Ekeremor Road, the dualised new Yenagoa City Road, and the Yenagoa-Oporoma-Ukubie Road. Additionally, the iconic 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge, a project promised by the Federal Government over six decades ago, was officially opened, marking a historic achievement for the region.

Leadership and Collaboration Praised

During the ceremony, President Tinubu commended Governor Douye Diri for his purposeful leadership and emphasised the importance of federal-state collaboration in driving development. He highlighted the crucial role of reliable power in industrialisation, skill enhancement, and economic empowerment, noting that these projects align with national progress goals.

Addressing National Challenges

President Tinubu acknowledged the hardships faced by Nigerians and promised to implement measures to alleviate suffering. In a solemn moment, he ordered a minute of silence for soldiers who died defending the country. He also pledged to procure more arms and ammunition for the Armed Forces to combat terrorism and insurgency, reinforcing his commitment to national security.

Transformative Impact on Bayelsa

Governor Diri expressed gratitude for the federal support, noting that the administration's policy interventions have led to significant reforms, particularly in the power sector. He detailed the transformative impact of the projects, which are expected to benefit over 60 communities and kingdoms in Southern Ijaw and Brass Local Councils. The initiatives will reduce travel times, lower transportation costs, and stimulate local economic activity, addressing long-standing developmental gaps.

Overall, the inauguration of these projects represents a major step forward in advancing Bayelsa State's development and improving the quality of life for its residents, while setting a precedent for future collaborative efforts between federal and state governments.
