Seplat Energy Launches 2026 Youth Entrepreneurship Programme with Renewable Energy Focus
Seplat Energy has officially announced the opening of applications for its 2026 Youth Entrepreneurship Programme, a comprehensive initiative designed to equip young Nigerians with practical skills in the renewable energy sector. The programme, which aims to support sustainable energy access in underserved communities, represents a significant step toward fostering indigenous expertise in clean energy solutions.
Programme Details and Objectives
In a statement released on social media platform X on Thursday, March 19, Seplat Energy outlined the programme's core mission. Since its inception, the Youth Entrepreneurship Programme has provided participants with hands-on training and real-world experience in clean energy technologies, preparing them for careers in the rapidly growing renewable energy industry.
The company emphasized: "The Youth Entrepreneurship Programme is a comprehensive capacity-building initiative that equips young people with the skills to design, install, and maintain solar and mini-grid systems. This effort delivers reliable electricity to communities and expands power access in underserved areas."
Since its launch in 2024, the programme has successfully trained 129 participants, demonstrating its impact and scalability. The training focuses on practical aspects of renewable energy, including the design, installation, and maintenance of solar and mini-grid systems, which are critical for addressing Nigeria's energy challenges.
Application Process and Requirements
Applications for the 2026 programme opened on March 18, 2026, and will close on March 27, 2026. Interested candidates must have a valid personal email address to ensure effective communication throughout the application process. Seplat Energy has stated that only shortlisted candidates who meet the programme's requirements will be contacted for further steps.
The company encourages young Nigerians passionate about renewable energy and community development to apply, highlighting the programme's role in bridging the skills gap in the energy sector.
Additional Training Opportunities at Seplat
In a related development, Seplat Energy Producing Nigeria Unlimited (SEPNU) has also opened applications for its Applied Technology Training Program (ATTP) for young Nigerian graduates. This initiative is designed to equip participants with world-class oil and gas knowledge and practical skills required for entry-level technician roles in the energy industry.
Seplat Energy explained: "The Applied Technology Training Program will run for approximately 23 months at the Seplat Energy Technical Training Centre (TTC) in Eket. This programme is designed to empower young Nigerians with practical technical skills and internationally recognised certifications, preparing them to contribute meaningfully to the growth and sustainability of Nigeria’s energy industry."
Applicants for the ATTP must meet specific criteria, including:
- Being Nigerian citizens
- Possessing a National Diploma (ND) in Chemical Engineering Technology, Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Petroleum Engineering Technology
- Having graduated with a minimum of Upper Credit no earlier than 2023
- Possessing a valid government-issued identity card
Notably, applicants with higher qualifications will not be considered for this programme, ensuring it targets the intended demographic.
Background and Strategic Context
This announcement comes amid significant developments in Seplat Energy's ownership structure. Recently, Heirs Energies acquired the full 20.07% equity stake previously owned by French oil company Maurel & Prom S.A. in Seplat Energy Plc, in a transaction valued at approximately $500 million. This acquisition aligns with Heirs Energies' long-term strategy to deepen indigenous participation in critical energy assets and support sustainable energy development in Nigeria and across Africa.
The Youth Entrepreneurship Programme reflects Seplat Energy's commitment to fostering local talent and driving innovation in Nigeria's energy sector. By investing in youth empowerment and skills development, the company aims to create a pipeline of skilled professionals who can contribute to the nation's energy security and economic growth.
As applications remain open until March 27, 2026, young Nigerians are urged to seize this opportunity to gain valuable skills in renewable energy, positioning themselves at the forefront of the global transition to sustainable power solutions.
