4 NGX Stocks Could Turn N10m into N26.1m

Investors who placed N10 million in a selection of four Nigerian Exchange (NGX) stocks in January 2025 could have seen their investment grow to N26.1 million by August 2026, according to an analysis by Nairametrics. The analysis highlights the significant gains achievable in the Nigerian equity market over a relatively short period.

Stocks That Delivered Triple-Digit Returns

The four stocks identified by Nairametrics are BUA Cement, Dangote Cement, Seplat Energy, and MTN Nigeria. Each of these companies delivered substantial returns, with the combined portfolio appreciating by over 160%.

BUA Cement led the pack with a return of 212.5%, turning an initial N2.5 million investment into N7.8 million. Dangote Cement followed closely with a gain of 187.5%, growing N2.5 million to N7.2 million. Seplat Energy returned 137.5%, increasing N2.5 million to N5.9 million, while MTN Nigeria appreciated by 95%, moving N2.5 million to N4.9 million.

Market Drivers and Sector Performance

The robust performance of these stocks reflects broader market trends. The NGX All-Share Index (ASI) rose by 31.2% in 2025, driven by improved corporate earnings, policy reforms, and increased foreign portfolio inflows. Analysts at Nairametrics noted that the cement and energy sectors benefited from infrastructure spending and higher oil prices.

"The Nigerian equity market has shown remarkable resilience, with these blue-chip companies delivering exceptional value to shareholders," said a Nairametrics analyst. "Investors who diversified across these sectors reaped the rewards of a recovering economy."

Implications for Investors

This analysis underscores the potential for high returns in the NGX, but it also highlights the importance of stock selection and timing. While past performance is not indicative of future results, the data provides a compelling case for active investment strategies in Nigeria's capital market.

As of August 2026, the NGX ASI stands at 78,450 points, up from 59,800 in January 2025. The market capitalization has grown to N62 trillion, reflecting increased investor confidence.
