MultiChoice, the operator of DStv and a CANAL+ group company, has announced a month-long free upgrade campaign for eligible subscribers in Nigeria. The 'Open Time' promotion runs from June 1 to June 30, 2026, and aims to enhance customer value and win back subscribers.
Free Upgrade for Active Subscribers
The campaign automatically upgrades active subscribers on lower packages, such as DStv Compact and Compact+, to higher viewing tiers. Some users will gain access to Premium content, which normally costs N44,500 per month and includes over 160 channels. The upgrade is applied automatically once payment is confirmed, with no manual activation required.
Eligibility and Participation
The offer applies to existing, reconnecting, and new subscribers whose accounts remain active throughout the promotional period. Customers must make payments via authorized channels, including the official DStv website, MyDStv app, USSD banking services, and approved payment agents. No registration is needed.
Automatic Reversal After Promotion
After June 30, 2026, all upgrades will be reversed automatically, and subscribers will revert to their normal subscription packages. MultiChoice confirmed that the initiative is part of its effort to provide more drama, action, sports, and kids' content during the campaign.
DStv Subscription Prices Unchanged in 2026
In a related development, MultiChoice has confirmed that DStv subscription prices will remain unchanged in 2026, deviating from its usual annual price adjustments. This move is aimed at winning back lost subscribers amid competition from streaming services. Willington Ngwepe, MultiChoice CEO for South Africa, stated that the company will keep prices flat in appreciation of the current economic circumstances.
Continuation of Popular Channels
Earlier reports indicated that DStv customers across Africa will continue to enjoy 12 popular TV channels after Canal+ and Warner Bros. Discovery reached a last-minute distribution deal. The affected channels, including CNN International and Cartoon Network, were initially set to exit DStv from January 1, 2026, following a breakdown in negotiations. The new multi-year, multi-region agreement reinforces the long-standing partnership between both companies.
