Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has approved the constitution of a 10-member Hajj Committee to ensure a smooth 2026 Hajj operation and safeguard the welfare of pilgrims from the state. The Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Committee Mandate
The delegation will monitor the activities of the State Hajj Commission and coordinate the work of other sub-committees to ensure the general wellbeing of Zamfara pilgrims throughout the 2026 Hajj exercise. The first batch of intending pilgrims from Zamfara will depart for Jeddah on Friday, May 15, 2026, from the Gusau International Airport, recently delivered by Governor Lawal's rescue administration. This marks a historic milestone, as it will be the first time pilgrims from the state will fly directly to the Holy Land from within Zamfara.
Committee Members
The committee members include: Hon. Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, as leader of the delegation; HRH Alhaji Attahiru Muhammad Ahmad, Emir of Anka, as deputy leader; Hon. Nura Dahiru Birnin Magaji, member of the House of Assembly; Hon. Kamilu Saidu, member of the House of Assembly; Hon. Suleman Adamu Gummi, Commissioner for Religious Affairs; Mal. Saidu Maikwano, UCC; Bello Aliyu Acha; two women representatives; and Sanusi Umar Karakkai, Director of Cabinet Affairs, as secretary.
Governor's Charge
Governor Lawal charged the committee to ensure full compliance with both Nigerian and Saudi Arabian regulations throughout the 2026 Hajj exercise. He emphasized the importance of transparency, efficiency, and the welfare of all pilgrims.
