Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno Achieves Housing Milestone with 1,048 Units Delivered

In a significant development for housing infrastructure, the Akwa Ibom State government has announced the completion and delivery of 1,048 housing units within the first three years of Governor Umo Eno's administration. This achievement was highlighted by the State Commissioner for Information, Honorable Aniekan Umanah, during a radio program monitored in Uyo.

Comprehensive Housing Distribution Across Key Sectors

Commissioner Umanah detailed the distribution of these housing units, which span multiple critical sectors designed to cater to diverse resident needs. The breakdown includes:

  • 438 units of ARISE Compassionate Homes for vulnerable persons
  • 230 units at Grace Estate
  • 100 units in the Aviation Village
  • 100 units of Medical Residences at the Medical City
  • 64 units for House of Assembly and EXCO Quarters
  • 50 units for Judiciary Quarters
  • 35 units at Ewet Luxury Garden
  • 31 units for Local Government Chairmen residences

Umanah emphasized that this represents a landmark accomplishment in the housing sector under Governor Eno's ARISE Agenda, which identifies housing development as one of its seventeen focal areas for state transformation.

Targeted Benefits for Civil Servants and Vulnerable Populations

The commissioner revealed specific beneficiary groups who have directly gained from this housing initiative. Notably, 150 civil servants on Grade Levels 1 through 7 have received housing units completely free of charge from the government. Additionally, 355 vulnerable persons have already been accommodated in the ARISE Compassionate Homes, with 438 units completed toward a target of 500.

Umanah described Governor Eno's approach to housing development as methodical and strategic, noting that various other housing projects are currently at different stages of completion across the state.

Future Expansion and Strategic Vision

Building on this substantial progress, the administration has unveiled plans for an additional 150 townhouse units along the reclaimed and refilled Uyo Village Road axis. When completed, this expansion will further increase the total number of housing units delivered and underway, catering to an even broader range of resident categories throughout Akwa Ibom State.

The housing drive forms a crucial component of the ARISE Agenda, which prioritizes comprehensive infrastructure development, economic expansion, and enhanced living standards for all citizens. According to Umanah, this initiative is specifically designed to bridge the existing housing gap, stimulate local economic activity through construction and related sectors, and support sustainable urban growth across Akwa Ibom State.

This announcement underscores the administration's commitment to addressing housing needs through practical, measurable outcomes that benefit both public servants and vulnerable community members, while laying groundwork for continued urban development.
