Ogun Assembly Commends Housing Ministry on GRA Regeneration

The Ogun State House of Assembly has publicly commended the state's Ministry of Housing for its significant achievements in delivering affordable housing and regenerating key areas across the state. The commendation was given on Friday, December 19, 2025, by the Assembly's Committee on Finance and Appropriations.

Lawmakers Laud Housing Sector Performance

Led by its Chairman, Honourable Musefiu Lamidi, the committee specifically praised the Commissioner for Housing, Jagunmolu Omoniyi, for his quality service delivery. The lawmakers highlighted the positive impact of initiatives like the Government Reservation Area (GRA) Regeneration Scheme, which has spurred increased housing development statewide.

The Assembly urged the ministry to build upon these successes in the coming fiscal year. While defending his ministry's budget proposal, Commissioner Omoniyi expressed gratitude for the cooperation between the legislative and executive arms, a synergy he credited with advancing the state's socio-economic growth.

Ambitious Legacy Projects Announced for Ogun

Commissioner Omoniyi unveiled an ambitious slate of legacy projects planned for the next fiscal year. These major developments are set to transform the state's infrastructure landscape and include:

  • The construction of a state-of-the-art International Conference Centre in Iperu.
  • An Appeal Court complex in the state capital, Abeokuta.
  • A 2,500-capacity Banquet Hall.

He also disclosed other critical projects aimed at optimizing government assets and expanding housing stock. These involve completing and converting the abandoned Block E Complex at the State Secretariat into a Revenue House for the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service.

Further housing initiatives include the construction of Assembly and appointees' quarters at the Ibara Housing Estate and a massive 563-unit housing project at Siun.

Other agencies that presented their budgets before the Assembly included the Bureau of Lands and Survey, led by the Special Adviser, Mrs. Oyindamola Oyelese, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, represented by its Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Kehinde Jokotoye.

Governor Abiodun Appoints New Statistician-General

In a related development, Governor Dapo Abiodun on the same Friday approved the appointment of Mrs. Omolara Adebukola Adebayo as the new Statistician-General of Ogun State.

The appointment, announced by the State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, aims to strengthen the Ogun State Bureau of Statistics and enhance the civil service. It follows the provisions of the Ogun State Statistical Law of 2012.

Mrs. Adebayo, who joined the state civil service on November 19, 2001, rose from a Statistician on Grade Level 08 to become Deputy Director (Statistician) on Grade Level 16 by January 1, 2024. She had been acting in the role since the former occupant's retirement in May 2025.

An accomplished professional, she holds a B.Sc. in Mathematics from the University of Ibadan (1999), an Oracle 11g Certification (2012), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Statistics from Ogun State University. She was selected from the state's leadership development pipeline program.

The government statement charged the new Statistician-General to bring dedication and excellence to her role in serving the state.
