The Ogun State House of Assembly has publicly commended the State Ministry of Housing for its significant strides in delivering affordable housing and regenerating key areas across the state. The commendation came during the budget defence session for the 2025 fiscal year.
Lawmakers Laud Housing Sector Progress
On Friday, December 19, 2025, the House Committee on Finance and Appropriations, led by Honourable Musefiu Lamidi, praised the Commissioner for Housing, Jagunmolu Omoniyi, for his quality service delivery. The lawmakers specifically highlighted the success of the Government Reservation Area (GRA) Regeneration Scheme, noting that such efforts have substantially increased housing development in Ogun State.
The Committee urged the ministry to build upon these achievements and surpass them in the coming year. In his response, Commissioner Omoniyi thanked the legislative arm for its cooperation with the executive, which he said has been pivotal for the state's socio-economic advancement.
Legacy Projects and Budget Defence
While defending the budget proposals for his ministry and its agencies—the State Housing Corporation and Housing Projects—Commissioner Omoniyi unveiled an ambitious plan for legacy projects in the next fiscal year. The key projects announced include:
- The construction of a state-of-the-art International Conference Centre at Iperu.
- An Appeal Court complex in the state capital, Abeokuta.
- A 2,500-capacity Banquet Hall.
He further disclosed other significant initiatives:
- Completing and converting the abandoned Block E Complex in the State Government Secretariat into a Revenue House for the Office of the State Internal Revenue Service.
- Constructing Assembly and appointees’ quarters at the Ibara Housing Estate.
- Developing a 563-unit housing project at Siun.
Other agencies that defended their budgets before the Assembly included the Bureau of Lands and Survey, led by the Special Adviser, Mrs. Oyindamola Oyelese, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Kehinde Jokotoye.
New Statistician-General Appointed
In a related development, Governor Dapo Abiodun on the same Friday approved the appointment of Mrs. Omolara Adebukola Adebayo as the new Statistician-General of Ogun State. This move aims to strengthen the operations of the Ogun State Bureau of Statistics.
The appointment, announced by the State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, aligns with the Ogun State Statistical Law of 2012. Mrs. Adebayo was selected from the successful directors under the Ogun State Pipeline Leadership Development Programme.
Mrs. Adebayo joined the state civil service on November 19, 2001, and rose to become Deputy Director by January 1, 2024. She had been acting in the role since May 2025. A graduate of Mathematics from the University of Ibadan, she also holds an Oracle certification and a Postgraduate Diploma in Statistics.
The statement from the Head of Service urged the new Statistician-General to bring dedication and excellence to her role in serving the state.
