Trading activities on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) ended on a bullish note on Wednesday, January 15, 2026, as significant gains in Seplat Energy Plc and a host of other stocks pushed the market index higher.
Market Indicators Show Strong Positive Momentum
The benchmark All-Share Index (ASI) recorded a substantial increase, appreciating by 934.62 points or 0.56 per cent. This upward movement saw the index close the trading session at 166,771.95 points, compared to its previous position.
In monetary terms, the total market capitalisation followed suit, rising by a notable N599 billion to settle at N106.781 trillion. This positive performance was primarily fueled by price appreciation in several large and medium-capitalised companies.
Top Gainers and Losers of the Trading Day
Market sentiment, measured by breadth, was firmly positive. A total of 47 stocks recorded gains, outnumbering the 28 stocks that declined in value.
The list of top performers was led by Academy Press, which emerged as the highest price gainer with a 10 per cent increase to close at N8.25 per share. It was closely followed by:
- NCR Nigeria with a gain of 9.98% to close at N106.30.
- Tripple Gee & Company advancing by 9.95% to N4.86.
- Tantalizers rising 9.93% to N2.99.
- DEAP Capital, eTranzact, McNichols, and Multiverse Mining each appreciating by 9.92%.
The key drivers of the market's upturn included Seplat Energy, Aradel Holdings, NCR Nigeria, MeCure Industries, and Multiverse Mining & Exploration.
On the opposing side, May & Baker Nigeria Plc led the losers' chart, shedding 9.79 per cent to close at N28.55. Other notable declines were seen in Wapic Insurance (down 6.76%), Livestock Feeds (down 6.67%), PZ Cussons Nigeria (down 6.52%), and Eterna (down 6.3%).
Trading Volume and Value See Mixed Activity
Despite the overall positive price movement, the total volume of shares traded experienced a significant dip. It decreased by 32.64 per cent to 761.941 million units.
These shares were valued at N29.85 billion and exchanged in 55,751 deals. Access Holdings dominated the activity chart with 53.411 million shares worth N1.238 billion changing hands.
The other most active stocks by volume were:

- Veritas Kapital Assurance: 32.795 million shares worth N69.592 million.
- Tantalizers: 30.128 million shares valued at N89.545 million.
