The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has declared that the success of Nigeria's ongoing tax reforms will depend heavily on developing a more efficient, ethical, and professionally-grounded tax workforce. The reforms are scheduled to take full effect in January 2026.
Professional Excellence Crucial for Reform Success
President and Chairman of Council, CITN, Innocent Ohagwa, made this declaration during this year's fellowship conferment ceremony where approximately 685 professionals were elevated to the rank of fellow. Ohagwa emphasized that being elevated to fellowship status carries significant responsibility to uphold the highest ideals of the taxation profession.
According to Ohagwa, the ongoing tax reform represents one of the most robust and decisive shifts toward a more efficient, streamlined, and technologically-driven tax administration system in Nigeria's history. He stressed that CITN tax professionals remain central to effectively translating these commendable policy and legal frameworks into practical action.
Call for Continuous Professional Development
Addressing the new fellows as senior ambassadors of the profession, the CITN boss urged them to lead the transformation by remaining relevant through increased investment in knowledge and staying current with recent developments in taxation and finance.
The Special Guest and Managing Partner of TAC Professional Services, Tunde Adaramaja, reinforced this message by urging the new fellows to remain steadfast in upholding the institute's core values and principles.
