The Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS), Michael Ango, has reaffirmed that the welfare and professional development of staff, alongside a commitment to service excellence, form the cornerstone of his administration.
A Night of Recognition
This commitment was made over the weekend when staff of the FCT-IRS honoured Ango at a special event in Abuja themed 'A Night with Ango'. The gathering served as a tribute to his visionary and exemplary leadership since assuming office.
In their various tributes, staff members praised the chairman as a reform-driven leader. They acknowledged that his initiatives have been instrumental in repositioning the Service towards greater efficiency, enhanced professionalism, and sustainable growth.
Building an Organization on Welfare and Integrity
Expressing his gratitude for the honour, Ango stated he was humbled by the gesture. He used the opportunity to reaffirm his resolve to build an organization firmly anchored on the principles of staff welfare, operational excellence, and integrity.
"I am deeply honoured and grateful for this show of love," Ango said. "When I assumed office, I made a promise to prioritise staff welfare, especially salary reviews and career progression. With God’s grace and your continued support, we will deliver on these commitments."
Key Reforms Underway
The Acting Chairman outlined several key reforms currently being implemented at the Service to back his promises. These strategic initiatives include:
- The introduction of a fully automated, merit-based promotion examination system to ensure fairness and transparency in career advancement.
- A comprehensive drive to improve working conditions across all FCT tax offices for a better staff experience.
- The procurement of staff buses to directly address and ease the transportation challenges faced by employees.
Ango further emphasized that teamwork is indispensable for achieving lasting institutional success. He noted that the Service's overarching vision is far greater than any individual contribution.
"Leaders will come and go, but the organisation will remain," he remarked. "What we build today should endure and become a legacy future generations will be proud to inherit."
He concluded by urging all staff to remain united, dedicated, and optimistic as the FCT-IRS forges ahead with its comprehensive reform agenda, all aimed at significantly enhancing operational efficiency and overall productivity.
