Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke met with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike in Abuja on Thursday, continuing a series of post-election engagements with prominent political figures following his re-election victory. The meeting took place days after Adeleke secured a second term in the August 15 governorship election.

The two leaders were photographed together holding the governor’s Certificate of Return. Lere Olayinka, Wike’s media aide, shared the image on X with the caption: “Governor Ademola Adeleke visits the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.” The photograph underscored the cordial nature of the meeting, which followed Adeleke’s earlier visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Adeleke’s Post-Election Tour and Election Results
Adeleke’s visit to Wike came after he had already called on President Bola Tinubu, where he presented the same Certificate of Return to the President. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that Adeleke polled 511,067 votes in the August 15 governorship election. His closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), received 444,815 votes. The governor also won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, indicating broad support across Osun State.
Political Context and Implications
The meeting with Wike, a key figure in the ruling party and a former governor of Rivers State, signals Adeleke’s efforts to build bridges across party lines. Wike, who serves as FCT Minister under President Tinubu, has been a influential voice in Nigerian politics. Adeleke’s engagements with both Tinubu and Wike highlight the importance of maintaining political alliances after a closely contested election. The governor’s re-election victory was confirmed by INEC, which declared him the winner based on the official results.
