The initiative, which began on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, has led to near full capacity operations on key corridors as Nigerians seize the opportunity to reduce their holiday travel expenses.
Stations Packed as Discount Drives Holiday Travel
Major railway stations across the country reported heavy passenger turnout and orderly queues shortly after the discounted fares took effect. Early booking data and station records indicated that several departures on primary routes were operating close to maximum capacity. The routes linking Lagos to Ibadan and Abuja to Kaduna recorded some of the highest passenger volumes.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, stated that the corporation was prepared to maintain smooth operations throughout the festive period. The NRC confirmed that both its modern standard gauge and older narrow gauge services remain fully operational across the country.
