Ogun State Partners With Whatadeal to Revamp Olumorock Tourism Centre
Ogun Govt Signs MoU for Olumorock Tourism Centre Takeover

In a strategic move to unlock economic value from its tourism assets, the Ogun State Government has officially entered into a partnership with a private firm for the management of a key tourist site.

Public-Private Partnership for Tourism Growth

The administration of Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Whatadeal, a privately-owned tourism, lifestyle, and technology company. The agreement, finalized on 22 December 2025, grants the firm the mandate to take over the management and activities of the Olumorock tourism attractions in the Ikija area of Abeokuta.

The official handover was performed by the State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi. He emphasized that such Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) are now essential for driving development and improving the state's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). Quoting the adage that "government has no business in business," Fagbayi expressed confidence that the partnership would significantly enhance the site's appeal and performance.

Investor Pledges to Elevate Olumorock to World Standard

Speaking at the event, the Director General of Public Private Partnerships in Ogun State, Barrister Dapo Oduwole, stated that the government is committed to attracting the best. He revealed that the investor is renowned in the tourism sector and is expected to inject expertise and resources to improve standards and generate more revenue for the state.

Oduwole cited the recent introduction of the Nike Art Gallery at Olumorock, similar to its Lagos counterpart, as an early example of the upgrades. He also highlighted other PPP successes, like a soon-to-be-commissioned hospital in Oke-Mosan, as evidence of the government's strategy to create an enabling environment for global investors.

In his acceptance speech, the Managing Director of Whatadeal, Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh, outlined an ambitious vision. He declared the firm's readiness to transform Olumorock from the day of takeover, with plans to introduce reality centres, game arcades, and fun fairs.

Aiming for a Top-Three Nigerian Destination

Bank-Olemoh set a bold objective: to make Olumorock one of the three primary reasons a foreign visitor comes to Nigeria. "Our vision is very clear," he said. "When we talk about tourism in Nigeria, we want you to be undoubtedly clear that the one place you must visit if you come to Nigeria is Olumorock."

He committed to maintaining and improving existing standards, with a focus on measurable growth in patronage. The firm aims to ensure that a trip to Nigeria is considered incomplete without a visit to the revitalized Olumorock centre, aligning with the goals of both the Governor and the Commissioner for Tourism.
