Ogun State Reaffirms Commitment to Diaspora Investment in Tourism and Hospitality
Ogun Pledges Diaspora Investment in Tourism Hospitality

The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging diaspora investments to boost the state's economy, particularly in the tourism and hospitality sectors. Speaking at the inauguration of Treal Hotel and Suites located in the Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta, the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi—who represented Governor Dapo Abiodun—said Ogun State remains a prime destination for investors due to its strategic location and growing economic potential.

Talabi noted that the state's proximity to Lagos, combined with its expanding tourism assets and rich cultural heritage, positions it as a natural hub for hospitality and leisure investment. He commended the Chairman of the hotel, Mr. Adebayo Fagbenro, for returning to invest in his home state after over two decades abroad, describing the move as a strong vote of confidence in Ogun's business environment. “The government remains committed to creating an enabling environment for investors, especially members of the diaspora bringing global experience and capital into the state,” he said.

Also speaking, the founder of the Kingsway International Christian Centre, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, called for stronger collaboration between Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to drive national development. He noted that Nigerians abroad continue to excel globally and should be encouraged to channel their expertise and resources into domestic development, adding that private-sector-driven projects can help reshape Nigeria's global image. “Projects such as this represent private-sector patriotism capable of transforming the nation's narrative,” he said.

The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, also commended the investment, describing it as a significant boost to the socio-economic development of Abeokuta and its environs. He noted that the city continues to witness steady growth in infrastructure and private-sector participation, positioning it as an emerging economic and cultural hub. “Abeokuta is witnessing steady socio-economic development, and investments like this are a welcome addition to the growth and progress of our land,” the monarch said.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Treal Hotel and Suites, Mr. Adebayo Fagbenro, a UK-based chartered banker, said the facility was designed to combine luxury hospitality with wellness services, noting that wellness tourism is a growing global industry with strong economic potential. He said the project was inspired by a desire to improve hospitality standards in the state and contribute to economic development. “Having travelled extensively, I observed gaps in the hospitality sector back home and felt compelled to bridge them,” he said.

Fagbenro added that feasibility studies showed strong growth potential driven by rising business activity and tourism in the state. He explained that each room is equipped with modern amenities, including flat-screen TVs, high-speed internet, air conditioning, and complimentary refreshments. He further disclosed that select suites feature enhanced facilities such as jacuzzis, massage sofas, exercise bikes, a glass swimming pool, and a fully equipped gym.

His wife, Mrs. Adejoke Fagbenro, said the project promoters aim to build a globally competitive hospitality brand anchored on expansion, excellence, and consistency. The General Manager of the hotel, Mr. Nuhu Onoja, expressed confidence that the facility would emerge as a leading hospitality destination through professional service delivery.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the APC Local Government Chairmen, Henry Fagbenro, described the investment as a boost to Ogun State's tourism profile, noting that the state continues to attract credible investors due to its stable and investor-friendly environment.
