The Ondo State government has committed to awarding a substantial cash prize of N10 million to the winners of the upcoming 2026 Ondo Auto Rally, as confirmed by Femi Akarakiri, the Director of Business Development and Investment Management at the Ondo State Development Agency (ONDIPA). This announcement underscores the state's ongoing support for the event, which has evolved into one of its premier tourist attractions over the years.

Event Details and Government Backing

According to Adeoye Ojuoko, president of the organising team Work n Play, the state's involvement extends beyond financial incentives. The government has also approved the use of a designated portion of the state capital for a drag race, featuring locally designed and built race cars. This move highlights a strategic effort to boost tourism and cultural promotion through indigenous content.

Ojuoko elaborated that the 2026 edition, scheduled for April 4 in Akure and Ilara-mokin, marks the ninth iteration of the rally, themed "Greatest Show on Wheels." The event aims to showcase Nigeria's burgeoning automotive engineering capabilities and innovation, positioning itself as a key motorsport activity in the country based on visitor turnout and tourist impact.
