Only 3 African Countries Granted Visa-Free Entry to Guyana in 2026

Guyana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has published an updated visa exemption list for 2026, revealing that only three African countries are among the 71 nations whose nationals can enter Guyana without a visa. The list, which sparked interest online, includes Botswana, Ghana (for stays up to 90 days), and South Africa (for up to 30 days).

Majority of Visa-Free Access Goes to Caribbean Nations

The majority of visa-free access is extended to Caribbean nations under the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas, which commits CARICOM member states to the free movement of their nationals. Countries covered include Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago. Additionally, the Dominican Republic is included for 90 days, while Cuba and Haiti are limited to holders of diplomatic passports only.

Latin American and Other Countries on the List

In Latin America, visa-free access is granted to Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Costa Rica (mostly for 90-day stays), and Panama (for tourism purposes). Other notable countries include Canada, the United States, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, and several European nations: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

Where Guyanese Can Travel Visa-Free

The ministry also published a corresponding list of countries that Guyanese passport holders can enter without a visa. This list includes four African countries: Botswana, Ghana (up to 90 days), Kenya, and South Africa (up to 30 days). Guyanese nationals retain visa-free access to most of the same Caribbean nations, as well as the United Kingdom and several countries across Latin America and Asia. Notably, Canada and the United States do not appear on this list.
