Islamic Scholar Warns Muslim Youths Against Globalisation, Digital Pressures
Scholar Warns Youths on Globalisation, Digital Revolution

A prominent Islamic scholar has issued a strong warning to young Muslims, urging them to resist the moral and ideological pressures fuelled by globalisation and the digital age. The call was made during the conclusion of a major national training event in Ogun State.

Steadfast Faith in a Changing World

Sheikh Hammid Yusuf Aderemi delivered this critical message at the closing ceremony of the National Islamic Training Programme (NITP) organised by The Muslim Congress (TMC). The event, which marked the programme's 32nd edition, was held at the Ogun State campsite and other centres across Nigeria.

In his lecture titled “Challenges of the Contemporary Time as It Affects the Youth,” Sheikh Aderemi reassured attendees that the trials facing modern Muslims are not unprecedented. He drew powerful parallels with historical struggles faced by earlier believers.

Historical Parallels and Modern Pitfalls

The scholar referenced the era of Prophet Musa (AS), noting how Pharaoh used oppression and deception to divert people from worshipping Allah. He likened these ancient tactics to modern ideologies that promote moral decline and shift focus away from divine worship.

He also cited the time of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), when people turned to idol worship. Aderemi warned that some Muslims today repeat a similar error by placing absolute faith in Western ideals, mistakenly believing that migration is the sole path to success. His core advice was a renewed commitment to Tawheed—worshipping none besides Allah and relying completely on Him as the controller of destiny.

Programme Highlights and Recognitions

The Amir of The Muslim Congress, Alhaji Taiwo AbdulWasi’i Bangbala, expressed gratitude to the over 2,000 delegates who participated across campsites in Ogun, Edo, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Oyo State. He encouraged participants to apply the teachings and discipline from the camp in their daily lives.

Special commendation was given to Mr. AbdulHakeem Jumah, a delegate from Ado-Odo/Ota, Ogun State, for his selfless efforts in maintaining a clean camp environment.

The ceremony featured the presentation of awards for the National Qur’anic Recitation Competition. The winners were:

  • First Place: Abdul Sanur Adebayo (Ondo State)
  • Second Place: Ukba Abdulakeem (Ogun State)
  • Third Place: Saheed Abdul Rahman (Lagos State)

Organisers stated the competition aims to promote Qur’anic memorisation and preserve the pure teachings of Islam.

Launch of the TMC Digital Portal

A significant technological highlight was the unveiling of the TMC Digital Portal, described as a one-stop online platform for the organisation's activities. Introduced by the Naibul Amir (Vice President, Administration), Alhaji Mikail Oriolowo Animashaun, the portal will allow members to register data and access services online. The platform was demonstrated by the National ICT Officer, Ustadh AbdulAzeez Aderopo.

The 2025 NITP, themed “Guidance and Direction for Today’s Muslims,” ran concurrently in four locations from December 24 to 28, 2025. The programme included lectures, games, career talks, and personality development sessions. It culminated in the inauguration of national and state leaders, with Alhaji Taiwo Hassan Adeshina returned as Amir, alongside Wulats (coordinators) and state secretaries.
