Ilorin Group Elects New Leaders, Pledges N500m Community Impact

The Ilorin Likeminds Foundation, a prominent socio-cultural association, has restated its unwavering dedication to human and community development within the Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State. This commitment was powerfully underscored during its 5th Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on Wednesday, December 26, 2025, in Ilorin, where a new leadership team was elected and outstanding members were honored.

A Legacy of Impact and Generous Investment

Outgoing President, Alhaji Saheed Alakoso, detailed the foundation's significant achievements since its inception five years ago. He revealed that the group, founded by concerned individuals aiming to address gaps in their community, has channeled a staggering sum of no less than five hundred million naira (N500,000,000) into philanthropic endeavors.

These funds, sourced entirely from voluntary donations by members, have been strategically invested in critical areas designed to uplift the less privileged. The key initiatives highlighted include comprehensive skill acquisition programs, IT training, educational scholarships for brilliant but indigent students, healthcare support, and annual Ramadan food distribution. Alakoso emphasized that the cumulative spending on community development has reached an impressive half a billion naira.

A New Executive Team Takes the Helm

The AGM culminated in the election of a new executive committee to steer the foundation's course for the coming years. Alhaji Lukman Atanda emerged as the new President. He is supported by a team including Professor Kayode Adam as 1st Vice-President, Dr. Lanre Olumoh as 2nd Vice-President, and Alhaji Sheu Moyosore who retains his role as General Secretary.

Other elected officials include Engr Abolore Alanamu as Assistant General Secretary, Mallam Abdulateef Naallah as Assistant Gen Sec II, and Alhaji Mohmmed Abdullahi Mohmmed as Publicity Director.

Future Focus: Job Creation and Cultural Values

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected President, Alhaji Lukman Atanda, outlined the vision for his tenure. He expressed gratitude for the members' trust and stated that the executive's primary focus would be on strengthening the foundation's capacity. A major priority will be the upliftment of the less privileged through job creation and diverse empowerment programs targeted at the state's teeming unemployed youth.

Atanda also stressed the importance of promoting the community's cultural values and orientation, calling on every member to contribute to making these goals a reality. Meanwhile, the Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sheu Moyosore, highlighted the foundation's openness to partnerships and collaborations that align with its objectives, noting its active statewide membership and functional website for public engagement.
