Northern Governors Mourn Passing of Revered Islamic Leader
The Northern States Governors' Forum has expressed profound sorrow following the death of renowned Islamic scholar and global Tijjaniyya spiritual leader, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who passed away on Wednesday night.
Governor Yahaya's Heartfelt Tribute
Inuwa Yahaya, Chairman of the Northern States Governors' Forum and Governor of Gombe State, conveyed his deep condolences through a press statement issued by his media aide, Isma'ila Uba Misilli, on Thursday. The governor described the late Sheikh as an exceptional scholar whose teachings and spiritual guidance impacted millions across multiple generations.
Governor Yahaya emphasized that Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi dedicated his century-long life to spreading Islamic knowledge, making significant contributions to the understanding of the Holy Qur'an, Hadith, Islamic jurisprudence, and the deeper spiritual aspects of Sufism.
"Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was a scholar of exceptional depth and humility," Governor Yahaya stated. "His mastery of Islamic texts, combined with his remarkable spiritual insight, established him as a true guide for Muslims within Nigeria and beyond. His teachings enriched countless lives and will continue to illuminate generations to come."
Legacy of Peace and Spiritual Leadership
The NSGF chairman highlighted the late Tijjaniyya leader's crucial role in promoting peace, unity, tolerance, and moral discipline - values he personally embodied throughout his long life.
"Sheikh's commitment to nurturing moral and spiritual values helped shape the character of his followers, his children, and the Ummah in general," Governor Yahaya noted. "His centenary journey testified to a life lived in service to Allah, to humanity, and to the pursuit of righteousness."
The governor extended the Northern Governors' Forum's condolences to the bereaved family, the Tijjaniyya community, and the entire Muslim Ummah, describing the loss as monumental. He prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the eminent scholar eternal rest and reward his lifetime of devotion with Aljannat Firdaus.
Nationwide Mourning and Confirmations
Bashir Ahmad, former aide to late President Muhammadu Buhari, also mourned the scholar's passing, confirming the development in a post on X. "It is with a heavy heart and complete submission to the will of Allah (SAW) that we receive the news of the passing of our revered leader, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, one of the leaders of the Tijjaniyya order in Nigeria," he wrote.
Ahmad added a prayer: "May Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his noble deeds and grant him Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen."
The scholar's son, Sayyadi Ali Dahiru Usman Bauchi, confirmed the death to Daily Trust, stating from Madinah: "It is confirmed. Sheikh has returned to his creator. We are all from Allah and to Him we shall all return."
He continued: "It is time for Sheikh to rest. We thank Almighty Allah. Allah has done everything for us to spare the life of Sheikh till this time. Sheikh's life was well spent. Alhamdulillah." The son indicated he was unable to confirm whether the burial would take place in Abuja or Bauchi due to his current location.
