Owo Praise the Lord Draws Over 7,000 Worshippers in Maiden Community Event

More than 7,000 people from across Ondo State and surrounding areas gathered yesterday for the inaugural edition of the Owo Praise the Lord, a community worship event organized by entrepreneur Bukunyi Olagbegi. The large-scale gathering took place at the Methodist Primary School in Owo, featuring a vibrant three-hour program that blended spiritual ministrations with cultural celebration.

Star-Studded Gospel Lineup and Prophetic Message

The event showcased performances from some of Nigeria's most renowned gospel artists, including Yinka Ayefele, Bidemi Olaoba, Funmi Aragbaiye, Adeyinka Alaseyori, and Elijah Daniels. Veteran musician Yinka Ayefele particularly electrified the crowd, receiving the loudest response of the evening as he led sustained worship sessions that captivated attendees.

Gospel comic Woli Arole served as the host for the occasion, while cleric Wole Oladiyun delivered a prophetic message that resonated with the assembled worshippers. The combination of musical excellence and spiritual guidance created an atmosphere of both celebration and reflection throughout the program.

Olagbegi's Vision for Community Homecoming

Bukunyi Olagbegi, CEO of FBSS Nigeria Limited and board member of Altheus Limited, conceived the event as a homecoming initiative for Owo indigenes. "Our goal is to bring more attention to our historic hometown, while we also gather and praise the Lord," Olagbegi explained. "We've invited some of the finest voices and performers in Nigerian gospel because this town deserves an evening filled with joy."

The entrepreneur, who was named among the United Nations' 100 Most Influential People of African Descent in 2019 and has chaired committees for The Future Awards Africa and SME100 Nigeria, designed the gathering to highlight Owo's Christian traditions and cultural identity within the Yoruba southwest region.

Community Response and Political Attendance

The event attracted not only thousands of worshippers but also industry and political leaders from across Ondo State. Local resident Iremide expressed gratitude for Olagbegi's initiative, stating, "We are grateful to Bukunyi Olagbegi for bringing this to Owo. It shows his kind heart and love for the town. I pray God continues to bless him and bless Owo."

Adeola, who traveled from Ikare to attend, described the experience as unforgettable. The evening concluded with collective prayers for peace and progress in both Owo and Ondo State, emphasizing the event's broader community significance beyond mere entertainment.

Cultural Significance and Future Implications

The Owo Praise the Lord represents more than just a worship gathering; it serves as a cultural reaffirmation for a town with deep historical roots in Yorubaland. By creating a platform that draws both local residents and diaspora members back to their hometown, Olagbegi has established what may become an annual tradition celebrating faith, community, and cultural heritage.

The successful maiden edition demonstrates the potential for such events to foster unity while showcasing local talent on a significant platform. As attendees dispersed after the three-hour program, many expressed hope that this would become a regular feature in Owo's cultural and spiritual calendar.
