US Businessman Eric Okoko Receives Prestigious Urhobo Chieftaincy Title in Ofoni
The Ofoni community in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State has shifted from mourning to jubilation as it celebrated the conferment of a high-ranking Urhobo chieftaincy title on Eric Ogbafedje Okoko, a businessman based in the United States. This event marks a significant moment for the community, which recently grieved the loss of former deputy governor Lawrence Ewhrujakpo, now embracing a festive atmosphere in honor of one of its own.
Elaborate Ceremony and Royal Attendance
During the coronation held at Okoko's country home in Ofoni, over 80 traditional chiefs from the Urhobo kingdom were present to officiate the ceremony. They presented Okoko with the staff of office, a symbol of his new role, alongside his wife, Mrs. Jennifer Oghenefejiro Okoko. The title bestowed upon him, Ogba Iroro 'R' Ovie Ughelli, is recognized as one of the highest chieftaincy honors within the Ughelli Kingdom, underscoring his contributions and status.

In his acceptance speech, Okoko, who holds a Master's degree in Finance and Accounting, pledged to use his new title as a catalyst for further development in the Urhobo kingdom. He emphasized his dedication to enhancing infrastructure, education, and economic opportunities in Ofoni and beyond, building on his previous initiatives that have already made a positive impact in the area.

We have to understand that before we were born, there is a system that was in place," he stated.
