Zimbabwean Woman Takes Husband to Traditional Court Over Intimate Neglect
A woman from Gokwe, Zimbabwe, has initiated a formal complaint against her husband in a traditional court, accusing him of severely neglecting their intimate life and stating she can no longer endure the distressing situation. Irene Chipatu presented her case to the court, revealing that despite the couple having seven children together, their marriage has become deeply troubled and strained.
Allegations of Intimate Neglect and Erectile Issues
According to Chipatu, the relationship has deteriorated significantly because they have not been intimate for nearly a full year. She claimed that her husband struggles with persistent erectile problems, which she asserted have profoundly affected their marital life and emotional connection. During the court session held on Sunday, March 8, Chipatu detailed how her husband had previously sought treatment from a traditional healer, who prepared herbal medicine to improve his condition.
She explained that this treatment once helped the couple maintain a healthier relationship and eventually led to the birth of their seven children. However, Chipatu reported that the situation has since worsened dramatically, leaving her feeling frustrated and emotionally neglected.
Graphic Testimony and Accusations of Sabotage
In a vivid and candid testimony, Chipatu told the court, "Chief, the 'snake' just lies there like a dead log. It never rises for any occasion. Without medicine, nothing happens." She further alleged that her husband deliberately destroys medicines meant to treat his condition and even damages prayer items intended to assist him. Chipatu expressed fear that the marriage could completely collapse if no changes occur, highlighting the severe impact on her well-being.
Court Referral and Community Advice
The matter has now been formally referred to Chief Chireya, who is expected to mediate and guide the couple toward a potential resolution. The couple has been instructed to return to the traditional court in two weeks for further proceedings. During the hearing, traditional leaders also advised community members to communicate openly about sex-related challenges in marriage and to seek medical or traditional help early to prevent serious marital conflicts.
