Saudi Org Opens Major Orphanage, Mosque in Kano

A significant humanitarian project aimed at supporting vulnerable children has been inaugurated in Nigeria's northwest, drawing commendation from state authorities. The Saudi Arabia-based Albidairi Foundation officially opened a 700-capacity orphanage home and a 1,500-capacity mosque in Kano State on Saturday, January 10, 2026.

A Beacon of Hope for Kano's Vulnerable Children

The new facility, named the Albidairi Orphanage Home, is located in Langel, within Tofa Local Government Area. The project's core mission is to provide critical support for vulnerable children and directly confront the alarming issue of out-of-school children in the region. Speaking at the commissioning event, Sheikh Adam Yushau Adam, the orphanage director, detailed the setup.

He explained that the home is designed to accommodate 14 children per room, with each unit having its own toilet and dedicated nanny. The children will receive a dual curriculum encompassing both Western education and Islamic studies. "The children will memorise the Qur'an here, and there is also provision for sports activities," Adam stated. He added that the facility is fully powered by solar energy and equipped with robust security measures.

Government Hails Timely Intervention Amid Educational Crisis

The Kano State government has welcomed the development as a crucial intervention. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna Makoda, highlighted the acute need for such initiatives. He revealed that Kano has the highest number of out-of-school children in Nigeria, a situation exacerbated by insecurity in neighbouring states, which has led to an influx of widows and orphans into Kano.

The Governor expressed optimism that the orphanage would help address part of these social challenges and potentially lead to a reduction in associated vices. Echoing this sentiment, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and the Disabled, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi Sani, noted that the home would ease the government's burden. She also mentioned the state's ongoing efforts to certify legal orphanages while shutting down illegal ones.

Spiritual Significance and Community Impact

The event also underscored the deep Islamic ethos behind caring for orphans. Nura Abdullahi, Director of Alkahirat Islamic Trust, reminded attendees of the spiritual rewards associated with the act. "Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was an orphan. He said whosoever takes care of an orphan, paradise is compulsory for him," Abdullahi quoted. He praised the founder, Abu-Abdurrahman Al-Bidairi, noting that the proprietor has never visited Nigeria, yet his humanitarian aid has significantly impacted the community.

The Albidairi Foundation, founded by Al-Bidairi, is officially registered in Nigeria and focuses on humanitarian activities. This project in Kano stands as one of its major contributions to social welfare and educational support in Northern Nigeria, aiming to create a lasting positive impact on the lives of hundreds of children.
