Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal Travels to UK for Strategic Governance Workshop
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State is set to participate in a high-level governance workshop at Coventry University in the United Kingdom. The event, scheduled for March 30–31, aims to enhance research-based decision-making and build resilient public institutions through collaboration with global experts.
Workshop Focus on Data-Driven Governance
Organized by the Centre for Resilient Business and Society and supported by United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI), the workshop will bring together policymakers and scholars to address governance challenges. According to a statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, this initiative aligns with Zamfara State’s commitment to adopting data-driven approaches for sustainable development.
Idris emphasized that the event will explore practical strategies for leveraging research, innovation, and evidence-based policies to improve governance outcomes. The workshop’s sessions will cover key themes, including resilient leadership in resource-limited environments, financial sustainability, public sector innovation, change management, and ethical data use in governance.
High-Level Delegation and Interactive Discussions
Governor Lawal will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including the Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, special advisers, and the Executive Secretary of the Zamfara Information Technology Development Agency (ZITDA). This underscores the state’s dedication to integrating research into its administrative framework.
During the workshop, Lawal will engage in an interactive session with postgraduate researchers titled: “The Role of Research in Policymaking: Driving Strategic and Resilient Governance – Lessons from the Six-Point Rescue Agenda.” This discussion will focus on translating academic research into actionable policies, drawing insights from Zamfara’s development strategy.
Broader Implications for Zamfara State
Idris noted that Zamfara’s participation highlights ongoing efforts to embed research and data into governance, particularly in critical sectors such as security, peacebuilding, agriculture, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and economic empowerment. By engaging with international experts, the state aims to strengthen its institutional capacity and foster sustainable growth through informed policymaking.
The workshop represents a significant step in Zamfara’s pursuit of resilient and effective governance, leveraging global knowledge to address local challenges and drive progress across various sectors.
