The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has prohibited regularization for new admissions from the 2024 admission cycle onward, while still allowing it for past cohorts. This means students with unrecorded or unverified admissions must now go through the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) from the outset, as confirmed in the 2026 update.
What Is JAMB Regularization and Who Needs It?
JAMB regularization is the process of validating an existing, unrecorded institutional admission by the board, after which a unique JAMB Registration Number is issued for national recognition. The board, established in 1978, regulates admissions to higher educational institutions in Nigeria.
Students who need regularization include those who obtained admission through other means such as diploma, part-time, or pre-degree programs, and those who did not receive a JAMB unique identifier record or admission letter. Others include those with incorrect or incomplete JAMB records, those transferring between institutions, and those who changed their institution or course.
Requirements and Steps for JAMB Regularization
To apply, candidates must meet specific requirements, including a JAMB regularization fee of ₦10,000, O-level results from WAEC, NECO, GCE, NABTEB, or combined, a passport photograph, and personal details such as address, date of birth, email address, gender, phone number, marital status, names, origin, previous registration number, and year of enrolment. Institutional details required include the reason for not being on the board list, matriculation number, matriculation year, year of graduation, and serial number, as well as details of the head of institution or registrar if on the graduating list.
The process involves visiting a JAMB-accredited centre or cyber cafe, making payment, confirming details, completing the form, obtaining a signed printout, and submitting it to the institution's admission office. The admission officer then submits the form to the JAMB office in the state or headquarters, and the candidate receives a notification via email.
How to Check JAMB Regularization Status
To check status, log in to the JAMB e-facility portal with your email and password. If you are a new user, create an account first. Once logged in, scroll down to 'Check Admission Status', choose your exam year, enter your JAMB registration number, and click 'Check Admission Status'. If successful, you will see your updated course and can print your admission letter.
Alternatively, you can log into JAMB CAPS to check your indemnity form or admission status. After logging in, look for 'My JAMB Indemnity Form', click on it, and then go to 'Check Application Status'. If approved, you can print your admission letter.
JAMB Regularization 2026 Update and Part-Time Students
From the 2024 admission cycle, JAMB has prohibited regularization for admissions not processed through CAPS. CAPS is now mandatory for all tertiary admissions, including part-time. Therefore, there will be no JAMB regularization for part-time students in 2025/2026; all admissions must be processed through CAPS from the start.
For past cohorts, JAMB regularization remains active. Students can also use the JAMB CAPS portal to check admission status by visiting the JAMB website, clicking 'CAPS (candidates)', logging in, and checking the 'Check Admission Status' tab.

The SMS code for JAMB profile is NIN followed by your 11-digit NIN number sent to 55019 or 66019. JAMB UTME results can be checked via the JAMB Result Checker at slipsprinting.jamb.gov.ng or the e-Facility portal. You can reprint your 2026 examination slip by visiting the official JAMB Print Examination Slip portal. However, you cannot log into the main JAMB e-Facility Portal using only your registration number; you need your registered email and password.
