Customs CG Bashir Adeniyi Donates Two-Storey Multimedia Centre to NIJ
Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Dr Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has officially donated a two-storey multimedia research centre to the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) in Lagos. This initiative aims to bridge significant learning gaps and enhance practical training for journalism and communication students.
Enhancing Journalism Education
During a special convocation ceremony held yesterday in Lagos, where Adeniyi was conferred with a fellowship award, he emphasized the importance of building capacity among journalists and students. He stated, "We must build the capacity of journalists and this generation of communication students. There are capacity gaps in terms of infrastructure and learning facilities. We are bringing a multi-media environment to journalists." After conducting a needs assessment, the NCS decided to construct this facility to provide a hands-on learning environment.
The new centre will feature:
- A fully equipped radio station
- An editing suite for audio and video production
- A production suite for multimedia integration
- Spaces for combining audio, images, and texts
Adeniyi, who is an alumnus of NIJ, expressed that the recognition was a great honour and a personal challenge to contribute more to the institution. He encouraged students to approach life with determination, noting that they might one day give back to their alma mater.
Recognition and Impact
Chairman of the NIJ Governing Council and former Governor of Ogun State, Olusegun Osoba, praised Adeniyi as a great Nigerian deserving of the honour. NIJ Provost, Gbenga Adefaye, highlighted Adeniyi's transformative impact on the Customs Service, stating, "He built bridges between the public and Customs. He understood the power of communication." This donation is expected to significantly boost the practical skills of NIJ students, preparing them for modern media challenges.
